The family is the first and vital cell of society. The future of the world and of the Church, therefore, passes by way of the family.” – St. John Paul II

Athletics

Our Mission

In all athletic competition, SJBA seeks what is honorable, just, and true. Each competition is an
opportunity to build virtue, strive for excellence, and bring Glory to God.

Athletic Philosophy

The SJBA Athletic Department is an integral part of the total educational system provided by the school, in which young men and young women are taught lifetime skills, all with the ultimate goal of developing the athlete’s body, mind, and spirit, and building character through the virtues of self-discipline, self-confidence, team work, humility, and sportsmanship. The contests in which our athletes compete are games, which should be fun and competitive for all involved. And while winning is certainly a goal, it must be viewed in the proper perspective and NOT achieved at the cost of our mission.

Catholic Metro Sports

SJBA partners with Catholic Metro Sports of Atlanta (CMS) to build school community and fellowship through sports. CMS organizes, promotes, and manages team sports programs for elementary and middle school students to bring the community closer to God through the participation of athletics.

Girls Volleyball

Offered in the fall and the spring with two divisions: 5th/6th grade division and a 7th/8th grade division. Each team has a minimum of nine and maximum of twelve players.

Girls & Boys Basketball

Offered in the winter with 2 divisions: a 3rd/4th grade recreational league and a 5th-8th grade semi-competitive league.

Co-Ed Soccer

Soccer

Offered in the fall and the spring for 2nd – 8th Grade (U8-U14) teams with practices at local fields. Teams play both home and away games with other CMS parishes in Atlanta. These teams are parent-coached and usually have a weeknight practice and games on Saturdays or Sundays.

Middle School Sports

SJBA students in grades 6 through 8 may compete in sports organized and offered by St. John Bosco Academy. SJBA offers cross country and tennis teams for middle school students. Both teams compete in the school’s conference, Georgia Association of Private and Parochial Schools (GAPPS).

Cross Country

Offered in the fall. The middle school team trains with the varsity team 2-3 times per week and competes in the GAPPS school conference. Meets are held on the weekends in various areas of Metro Atlanta.

Girls & Boys Tennis

Offered in the spring. The middle school tennis team trains with local tennis pros and competes in the GAPPS school conference. Practices are held twice per week and matches take place at Creekstone Estates or at opposing team courts.

High School Sports

St. John Bosco Academy is committed to a high school sports program whose end goal is to aid in the formation of our student-athletes and build a sense of community. As part of that commitment, we have formed the SJBA Athletic Council to help ensure we maintain a proper balance between sports, academics, the lives of our students and families, and the school community.
