Welcome to SJBA North
St. John Bosco Academy (SJBA) is a nontraditional educational institution rooted in the Catholic Faith and loyal to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. SJBA employs a Classical curriculum to foster virtue and wisdom in its students by immersing them in truth, goodness, and beauty. From our humble beginnings meeting around kitchen tables in 2008, St. John Bosco Academy has grown into 2 beautiful campuses in Forsyth County, serving over 200 families representing more than 29 parishes in the suburban Atlanta area. SJBA North serves students from PreK4 through 5th grades with plans to add an additional grade each year. Classes will meet on campus each Monday/Wednesday.

SJBA North Campus
Our new SJBA North Campus is set on a picturesque 13 acre wooded property at 4888 Browns Bridge Road, Cumming, just minutes from GA 400 off exit 17 in North Forsyth County. SJBA North will offer classes in PK4 through 5th grades, adding an additional grade each year. The hybrid model for SJBA North will be a mirror of the original campus located on Shiloh Road in South Forsyth County and founded in 2008. As our new community grows, we are excited to offer more and more opportunities for our students to be involved in extracurricular activities. Students from our new campus are invited to join our Shiloh Campus students for Friday Performing arts classes, 1st-5th grade. They will also have the opportunity to participate in CMLA Sports with their fellow SJBA Shiloh classmates. The sense of community and friendship is strong at St. John Bosco Academy!

How does the hybrid system work?
St. John Bosco Academy’s hybrid model is a beautiful blend of traditional school and homeschool. The SJBA student attends classes on campus 2 days each week and will homeschool with a parent the remaining 3 days. Our teachers create all the lesson plans for in class lessons as well as for the home days. In this way, our teachers are truly partnering with our parents for the success of the student. SJBA’s students, K-8th grade, are registered as homeschooled through the state.
What’s a typical day like at school?
When our students are on campus they experience a “traditional school day.” SJBA offers one class per grade. Each class has one teacher and one teacher assistant. Depending on the age of the student, anywhere from 1 to 2 lessons are taught by the teacher in the primary subjects, math and language arts. Secondary subjects will have one lesson taught per school day. Our primary classes have a double class period of 1.5 hours while our secondary subjects of history, science, and religion will be 45 minutes in length. Each grade has a designated lunch and recess period.
What are the hours?
Lower School doors open 7:45am Dismissal for Prek4 through 8 is at 2:50pm. High School doors open at 7:30am and Dismissal is at 3:15pm.
What can I expect on the home days?
SJBA teachers create all weekly lesson plans for their class(es) and post them in our school management system, FACTS, the weekend prior to schooling. Parents follow the lessons as laid out by their teacher(s) by subject. Implementing the lesson plans depends on your child’s learning style and needs.Typically the younger children will need the one on one time for a lesson on each of the 5 assigned subjects to be taught at home. These lessons will piggyback on the lesson taught by the teacher the previous on-campus school day. The older the student, generally, the more independent they will become with the execution of the lessons. The parent will ALWAYS be responsible for checking/scoring, helping with mastery by reteaching, if needed, guiding, and forming, and simply being present in their student’s day.
What if I have questions about a lesson while working with my child?
Parents have the email addresses of their teachers. Should a question arise, parents are encouraged to contact the teacher via email as soon as possible.
I don’t have a teaching degree. Can I still be successful homeschooling my child?
Absolutely! The requirements for success are love of your child and family, faith in God, and a desire to direct your child's education and formation.
We’re not Catholic. Does that matter at St. John Bosco Academy?
Our Catholic Faith is an integral part of who we are at St. John Bosco Academy. We love our Faith and make every effort to weave it through everything we do. It’s important to recognize that our curriculum is chosen based on our Catholic mission. One of the required daily subjects is our Religion class where our students dig deeper and deeper into our Catholic faith while on campus and at home through the assigned lessons. Our families that are not practicing the Catholic faith are encouraged to discern whether they are comfortable teaching their child Catholicism. There may also come a point as the child moves closer to the middle school years, that they begin to see a difference between what they are being taught as God’s Truth versus what they are practicing at home and their home church. It can be a time of confusion for the child but also a great opportunity for conversation.
What are the class sizes?
Class sizes vary depending on the age. The younger the child, the smaller the classes. Our PK4 classes start with 14 children. In Kindergarten the class size moves to 17 children. On average, one seat is added per grade after Kindergarten, capping at 22 by 5th or 6th grade. Each class at SJBA will have a lead teacher and a teacher assistant.
When do applications open and what is the deadline to apply?
Applications for the following school year open on November 1st of each year. All applications close by February 1st. There may be some cases where applications for specific grades close early due to a class potentially reaching its capacity versus the number of applications received.
When do applicants find out if they are accepted?
All determinations are issued via email the first week in April.
How does a waitlist work?
A wait list is created when we have more students that have qualified to be accepted versus the number of seats available in a class. A secondary option is our Satellite Program which is fully homeschooling while using our SJBA curriculum and lesson plans. No teacher assistance is available with the Satellite Program.
What curriculum do you use?
St. John Bosco uses a customized curriculum for their hybrid model. The curriculum has been carefully chosen and vetted through decades of expertise and implementation. Most importantly it must reflect what is True, Good, and Beautiful. SJBA has beautifully integrated classical curriculum and teaching methods along with a successful traditional curriculum and methods. Our teachers receive ongoing training throughout the year on new and exciting classical methods of teaching to further engage the student and open their minds to a critical way of learning and thinking.
Is St. John Bosco Academy accredited?
SJBA is accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commision (GAC) with Excellence.
What is the next step?
All potential SJBA applicant families are required to attend an Open House prior to submitting an application. The Open House includes a presentation and a tour of the school. No tours are offered outside of our Open House dates. Please see our Admission Tab for the next Open House date and how to RSVP.
